This is how to take music off of your ipod and put it onto your computer without 3rd party software. First, make sure that your ipod is plugged in.
This method does not work for the Ipod Touch or Iphone because your computer thinks they are cameras.
1) Open up “My Computer” located on your desktop.
2) Go to “tools” located at the top of your window and choose “folder options”
3) Select the “view” tab,
about half way down, make sure that “Show hidden files and folders” is selected. Hit OK and then, close My Computer.
4) Next, on the bottom left of your screen go to
Start>
Programs>
Accessories>
Windows Explorer
5) Select “My Computer” on the left part of the window, a subfolder that appears should be your ipod. It should appear as a drive on your computer, mine happens to be my “E Drive”. Select it.
6) Then, look for
“Ipod-Control”. Select it.
7) Here it should have several folders, one of which is “music”
8) Right click the folder “music” and select copy. Then, minimize your window and go back to your desktop. Right click your desktop (not a shortcut). Go to
new>
and select folder.
9) This is where your copied music will go, so make sure you name it something that you’ll remember. Open up the folder. Right click in the middle of the window that you just opened and click “paste”.
10) There should be more files that appear, each containing songs copied from your ipod (it may take a few minutes). These files will have funny names as they are so the ipod can read them. Such as ADEF.
*The following is how to add that music to your itunes library*
1) Open up your iTunes.
2) Go to “desktop” and look for the folder that you added earlier to your desktop, this folder contains you music. Open up each subfolder, select the music within and drag it into itunes. You may also be able to drag the entire folder from your desktop but this doesn't always work.
3) Finally, select all of the newly added music and select “Create AAC Version” (or "Consolidate Files" if your music is already in AAC format). This will copy all of the music into your iTunes library.
4) Delete the folder you created on your desktop.
DONE!!!!
